Chandra Analysis of Abell 496

چکیده
We present preliminary results of imaging and spectral analysis of the cluster A496 with the S3 chip on-board the Chandra satellite. We confirm the presence of a cooling flow and radial gradients in elemental abundances. The cluster’s core has clear signs of substructures (sharp edges, cavities), similar to those recently found in other cooling flow clusters. The O/Fe ratio distribution indicates that the gas in the core of the cluster is significantly enriched by SN Ia ejecta.

Chandra Analysis of Abell 496 - No Chemical Gradients Across Cold
We present the results of a spatially-resolved spectroscopic analysis of the galaxy cluster Abell 496 with the S3 chip on-board the Chandra satellite. We confirm the presence of a central positive temperature gradient consistent with a cooling flow, but with a minimum gas temperature of ∼0.5–0.9 keV. The cluster also exhibits sharp edges in gas density and temperature which are consistent with ...
متن کاملDifferent Methods of Forming Cold Fronts in Non-merging Clusters
Sharp edges in X-ray surface brightness with continuous gas pressure called cold fronts have been often found in relaxed galaxy clusters such as Abell 496. Models that explain cold fronts as surviving cores of head-on subcluster mergers do not work well for these clusters and competing models involving gas sloshing have been recently proposed. Here, we test some concrete predictions of these mo...
متن کاملROSAT HRI IMAGES OF ABELL 85 and ABELL 496 - EVIDENCE FOR INHOMOGENEITIES IN COOLING FLOWS
We present ROSAT HRI images of two clusters of galaxies with cooling flows, Abell 496 and Abell 85. In these clusters, X-ray emission on small scales above the general cluster emission is significant at the 3 a level. There is no evidence for optical counterparts. The enhancements'may be associated with lumps of gas -at a lower temperature and higher density than the ambient medium, or hotter, ...
متن کاملThe galaxy luminosity function of the Abell 496 cluster and its spatial variations ⋆
Context. The faint-end slopes of galaxy luminosity functions (LFs) in clusters of galaxies have been observed in some cases to vary with clustercentric distance and should be influenced by physical processes (mergers, tides) affecting cluster galaxies. However, there is a wide disagreement on the values of the faint-end LF slopes, ranging from −1 to −2.3 in the magnitude range −18 < M r < −14. ...
متن کاملChandra observations of the galaxy cluster Abell 1835
We present the analysis of 30 ksec of Chandra observations of the galaxy cluster Abell 1835. Overall, the X-ray image shows a relaxed morphology, although we detect substructure in in the inner 30 kpc radius. Spectral analysis shows a steep drop in the X-ray gas temperature from ∼12 keV in the outer regions of the cluster to ∼4 keV in the core. The Chandra data provide tight constraints on the ...
